Part of the challenge and fun with disabled sailing is to customize each boat with adaptive equipment to suite the specific needs of the sailor. The Sonar, in particular, has a variety of disabilities amongst the crew, ranging from amputees to quadriplegics. Lots of research and development goes in to it, but much more is needed. The cost of lightweight, but strong materials usually puts a limit on what we have and a lot more could be done.
