Learn the art of flying the "kite"! Downwind sailing will never be the same without a spinnaker. Sailing in Miami offers a verity of conditions. This Team Paradise class teaches everything about how to handle a spinnaker on a small to mid-seize keel-boat like the 23' Sonar. Be prepared for lots of gybing, because once you can gybe a spinnaker, you can fly a spinnaker!
Start out by learning all the parts and terms before dock-side rehearsal. When comfortable, we proceed out on open waters for practice. Packing the "chute", setting the pole, sets, using the tweakers, reaching, taking the load off, gybing, running and takedowns (both to windward and leeward).
What goes up must come down, so expect some up-wind sailing as well. The transition between down-wind and up-wind should be smooth and the spinnaker and pole stored away in a hurry. The lines needs to be cleaned-up and the chute re-packed.
