Day 1 of Training: Veterans & 1st Responders Sailing

Here’s what a day of training looks like:

Thursday, May 21st, 2026

Our Thursdays are gearing up to be the most competitive day of the week! Team Paradise is pleased to begin racing training for our veterans and first responders in the Thursday Sailing program.

We had two teams of three head out on two Sonars, with the Boston Whaler as our mark-set coach boat. Our course was a simple beam reach starting line, with a rounding mark going towards Downtown Miami. It was great to have more practice tacking quickly and in unison as a team, and to be sailing in close quarters with other boats. We also learned that our anchor lines on the marks need to be adjusted properly when setting a course for the Sonars: unlike shortening them for our youth programs in the Bay's shallower waters, they need a little more depth for Thursday Sailing.

Here’s a video recap of our day:

We continue to see our team show up ready for action and the program grow into something very exciting! An initiative to add another day of sailing in addition to Thursdays is underway, and we’ll soon be seeing even more training come next month. We always have an amazing time sailing and working hard with our friends, and can’t wait to keep racing until our inaugural Guardian Cup Regatta in November.
