Clouds give a serene experience on the bay

Thursday, June 4th, 2026

Miami has been seeing a lot of rain at the beginning of this summer season. Last week, we had to cancel our Thursday Sailing session due to lightning and foul weather. However, this week opened up to be a perfect day!

Our shore team carefully studied the forecast for foul weather and lightning, and gave the all clear for launch on the Bay. We also kept a constant eye on multiple weather radars and lightning trackers to give full peace of mind to our team that we were in safe hands.

We had a team of five head out on one Sonar, mainsail only, to keep the boat from being overpowered. Our bearing was a straight course towards Key Biscayne on a beam reach. The journey there had occasional puffs and some large waves, which made for a wet sailing experience, but fun nonetheless. The great thing about making our way towards Key Biscayne was being rewarded with a protected spot from waves upon arrival, and seeing all the pretty sights that Key Biscayne has to offer. The biggest challenge of the day was by far working against the weather helm while driving the Sonar: the weather helm was making it difficult to keep our bearing. Our veterans and first responders got amazing practice in learning how to ease the heel of the boat in a controlled way, without losing too much of their speed. We plan on working more on this in future weeks.

Here’s a video recap of our day. Keep an eye out for the beautiful view of Downtown Miami in the clouds!

For next week’s session, we plan to have some formal interviews with our veterans to learn firsthand about their experience with us. Giving them a week's notice will give them the peace of mind to prepare and have their game face on! We’re excited to keep on sailing and sharing laughs. Let’s go sailing!
