First Time Sailors Join us On the Bay!
June 25th, 2026
Another Thursday on the water brought a little bit of everything—lighter winds for practicing new skills, opportunities to learn from one another, and meaningful moments shared between veterans, first responders, and their families. It's days like these that remind us our Frontline Sailing Program is about so much more than sailing!
We had five sailors on one Sonar for a calm day on the water. The breeze was less than it has consistently been in the past months, which made it easier for sailors to learn and get more practice at the helm. It’s great to have different wind and weather conditions to practice in.
On our sail back to the dock, one of our participants shared a practical skill by teaching the group how to tie a Butterfly Knot. This versatile knot creates a secure loop in the middle of a rope without needing access to either end, making it especially useful in climbing, rescue operations, sailing, and other situations where strength and reliability matter. Designed to handle loads from multiple directions, it's a dependable knot with countless real-world applications—and a great reminder that every day on the water offers an opportunity to learn something new from one another.
One of the most rewarding moments of the day came from welcoming a new generation onto the water! At just seven years old and sailing for the very first time, this young sailor joined us alongside her father, a veteran in our program. Watching her curiosity grow through peering over the side of the boat and taking in the experience reminded us that sailing has a unique way of bringing families together. Moments like these show that our Frontline Sailing Program is about more than learning to sail—it's about creating opportunities to connect.
Multiple sailors say that Thursdays are the highlight of our week. We are so excited to be able to add a second day of the week to the program; Sundays are now open to our frontline community! Bringing in more opportunities to learn and connect with others is what it’s all about. We’ll see you this weekend!
