Saturday Youth Sailing S6-E1

RS Rules

The first Saturday of the SYS Spring session was postponed for a week due to "nuking" wind conditions a week ago, but it happened today. We had a smaller group of kids because of spring break and the Easter holiday. Our students from Vera Gardens could not attend due to transportation issues. Nevertheless, today was an extra special day for us. The RS Fest is going on in Regatta Park. It's the first-ever multi-class RS event in North America. Team Paradise entered the regatta with one RS Feva, but they could only compete for one day. The rest of our team used our RS Ventures to sail around and watch the racing. ..

Update 4/3/24

On the final day of the RS Fest, I raced aboard a RS 21. That was a lot of fun! We had three races. The following day, the Commercial Director visited us at the US Sailing Center. I was happy to hear that they are planing on making this an annual event. RS is big in Europe and there is no reason it couldn’t take off in North America. This would provide us with an excellent opportunity to plan ahead and get our students and parents/caregivers aboard early. We have plenty of time to prepare! Perhaps an adventure start could be included. The goal would be start and sail to a sandbar, have some fun there, and then sail back and finish the race. What do you say?

How our Students Benefit

Spending time away from mobile devices and computer screens can benefit kids. Reducing screen time promotes healthier habits like physical activities and social interactions. Additionally, water activities can teach kids valuable life skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership. Overall, getting out on the water is an excellent way for kids to have fun, stay active, and learn essential life lessons.
